My Best Parenting Advice: “Oh, No – I Gave Mommy My Cold” by Baby Jake

Hi, it’s me Baby Jake. In case we haven’t had the pleasure, let me introduce myself. I’m the new baby Little baby with laptop.around this site, and I’m pretty new too, (that was a pun, aren’t I funny!), 2 ½ months to be exact.  While I love my parents to bits, sometimes they just don’t know what to do because they never had a baby. So I wanted to make it easier and decided to tell you what it’s like to be a baby and what I need to be happy. Cause when I’m happy, they’re happy too! Last time I wrote I had a terrible cold, my first one. I couldn’t breathe out of my nose, (and don’t know how to blow it, so it runs) I coughed and coughed and cried and cried. And you know what, mommy cried too because she tried everything to make me feel better and nothing worked. But once she read my letter, she did some different things and some of my tears stopped and so did hers. But I’m here today to report that I’m healthy but poor mommy now has my cold. “Oh no, I’m too little to rock her and she’s too big to be swaddled. I feel so bad. I didn’t mean to give it to her.  But I’ve been listening really closely to her talk on the phone and I think Grandma is coming over to help.  I love Grandma, she carries me everywhere”. Here are some thingsI heard Grandma telling mommy to make her feel better:

  •    If you can’t stop coughing, mix together 1 tsp. of honey and 1 tsp. of lemon juice and drink it down…very soothing.
  • If your nose is won’t stop running, it’s okay to use baby Jake’s Boogie Wipes®.  It will feel so much better.
  • Rub some avocado oil on your chapped lips. It works wonders and it not only for cooking.
  • If you get the chills, put a blanket in the dryer and warm it up. Wrap yourself in the warm blanket and lay down. Ahh…just like a baby!
  • Make sure to drink 4 ounces of liquid every hour. Staying well hydrated will help with everything.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help.  This is not the time for the “G” word” – Guilt. If Grandma or a babysitter will be coming over, put the instructions in writing including last meal, nap and diaper change. And if you don’t have help, nap when your little one naps. Everything else can wait.
  • And most important of all, when you can rest, turn off your phone, lay your head down on the pillow and close your eyes. Getting plenty of rest is the best medicine of all.

Wow…my Grandma is really smart. I hope you have a smart Grandma too. And I hope all her suggestions help your mommy feel better when she gets a cold.

Gotta run…time to learn the “Itsy Bitsy Spider!” I will let you know how it goes next time. But check out my new digs: for more great tips.
