My Best Parenting Advice: The Nanny Rides Again! by Baby Jake
Hi, it’s me Baby Jake. You know me parents…the Baby With All the Instructions!
I bet you’ve been checking the site everyday to see what happened with the new lady called Nanny that I told you about in my last note! If you don’t know what I’m talking about you need to read this, http://bit.ly/1ifUejt and it will get you up to snuff. And if you’re already a mommy or daddy, and we haven’t met, you need to know me! I share lots of important things to help you with your baby
At the end of the first meeting, mommy had asked Nanny to come back for a “Working Interview.” I found out that means she takes over for mommy and tries to take care of me the same way. Well, let me tell you, I wanted my mommy so I gave her a run for her money. Here’s what I did:
- When she tried to give me my bottle, I decided to squirm and not drink like a nice boy. She didn’t feel like mommy, so I wasn’t comfortable, but guess what? She was pretty smart! Nanny put me in my bouncy seat and fed me my bottle. There were so many toys to look at while I was drinking, I forgot to squirm.
- When Nanny took me out to burp me, a big one came right out. I thought about not doing it, but moving me out of the seat made the air come out and it felt good. Then I had room for more milk. So if you have a nanny that isn’t a good burper, tell her to stand up and try it. She said a big word – Gravity. Think that’s why I burped.
- Then it was time to change my diaper and I didn’t want her to do that. Only mommy and daddy are allowed. But she sang songs while she was changing me and I had a dry diaper on before I knew it. But something didn’t feel good around my legs so I started crying really loud…Ouch! Well, you guessed it, mommy came running in. She unsnapped my onesie and looked at my diaper. Then she showed Nanny what was wrong. If you use a disposable diaper, there’s some kind of tight elastic around the legs that you have to pull out or it will pinch my delicate skin. Nanny didn’t do that and boy I let out a howl. Once mommy had it out instead of in I felt better. I sure hope this working interview is over soon…I want my mommy to take care of me.
- I got really tired from all the commotion. So mommy told Nanny to swaddle me in my blanket and put me in my crib for a nap. Nanny wrapped me in my blanket with my arms up to my chest and it was really tight and uncomfortable. But the bottom was pretty loose, so I kicked myself out of it in seconds. Nanny tried again, but she just didn’t get it. She must have been absent for the swaddling class at her school.
Thankfully mommy came in to see if I was in my crib. She showed Nanny how to swaddle me and told her that I don’t like my arms in the swaddle and to wrap the blanket under them. By this time, I didn’t care who did what. I was cranky and tired and had enough for today. Mommy turned on my white noise machine, gave me a big kiss and hug, put me in my crib on my back. I was off to dreamland before they could walk out of the room. Ahh.
And guess what, when I woke up Nanny was gone and it was just mommy, daddy and me again. Not sure if she will be coming back to try it again, but for now I am a happy baby.
Oh, one more thing. In case you don’t know what a white noise machine is, I should tell you about it. It’s an electric machine that makes really nice sounds like the ocean, birds, rain and some static. And I know she bought it at a place called Amazon.com because I saw the box and heard her say that word. Mommy says I will sleep better with it on because I am so used to her noisy womb. I don’t know if it’s something my friends have. I will have to ask them because it’s really nice.
If you have a white noise machine for your baby, make sure to keep the sounds on low volume. I heard Daddy reading something to mommy about baby’s hearing; http://nbcnews.to/1jk7auI and it didn’t sound good. Also remember to put it out of my reach and never in my crib. That can be dangerous.
I’ll keep you posted on that woman, Nanny! Not sure if she will pass the test…but we’ll see.
Hugs,
Baby Jake
